As part of his Positive Plan for Broadband, local MP Luke Hall has continued to call for the rollout of Fibre to the Premises broadband to reach the new neighbourhoods in Frampton Cotterell.
With much of the village already benefiting from good broadband speeds, some of the new neighbourhoods throughout Frampton Cotterell had yet to be connected to the Fibre technology.
Now however, after regular enquiries from the local MP, Openreach have confirmed that they are working towards providing ultrafast Fibre to the Premises in the area. Work is still in its early stages, with exact timeframes and locations to be confirmed, however Openreach have indicated that the work is set to complete by the end of 2021.
Luke Hall said, “This is brilliant news that more families living in Frampton Cotterell will soon to be able to access super-fast broadband. With so many more people now working from home, and with our children relying increasingly on the internet for their studies, it is vital that every home in South Gloucestershire has the best possible broadband speed”
“My Positive Plan for Broadband is committed to connecting the remaining 4% of properties without Fibre broadband, and ensuring our rural villages without any type of fibre coverage is an absolute priority”
The rollout of this broadband follows the Government’s recent launch of Project Gigabit, in which more than one million hard to reach homes and businesses will have next generation gigabit broadband built to them in the first phase of a £5 billion government infrastructure project.
As well as this, an extra £210m worth of vouchers are being released to help those with slow speeds, whilst £110m will be made available to connect up to 7,000 rural GP surgeries, libraries and schools across the UK. This investment in the country’s broadband infrastructure is a key part of the Government’s efforts to Build Back Better from the Coronavirus pandemic, and level up communities across the UK.
