Local residents in Chipping Sodbury and the surrounding villages, have welcomed the news that the Post Office will be returning to the High Street.
The previous Post Office was located in the Cotswold Vintners store was sadly closed in November 2019, which saw a loss of a vital service for many local residents from Sodbury, Yate, and the surrounding villages. There was good news in 2020, when a temporary mobile service was introduced, visiting the High Street twice a week, following a hard fought campaign the local MP Luke Hall and Chipping Sodbury Town Councillors.
After many discussions, a temporary mobile service was provided and operated just outside the MP’s Constituency Office. However concerns remained that access to the Post Office was still limited, and many residents still had difficulty with the restricted services and times.
Local Member of Parliament Luke Hall has however now received confirmation from the Post Office that the re-opening of the much-loved Post Office in Chipping Sodbury will return. After many months of ongoing talks and negotiations, and having continued to raise residents concerns and calls for a permanent Post Office, it has now been announced that the Post Office will be reinstated at the local Spar Convenience Store, located on the High Street on the junction with Hounds Road.
Luke Hall said “I am so pleased to see the return of a permanent Local Post office in our community. I know that many of residents rely on these services and this is a huge boost for local businesses and our High Street’s economy.”
Local Town Councillor, Becky Romaine added, “We have continued to keep in close touch with the Post Office and are delighted our town has this much-needed service back where it belongs, along our High Street. This is brilliant news for the Sodbury community.”
The new branch will be located at the Spar store, and is set to open Friday 9th September at 13:00. The branch will offer services from mail, withdrawals, deposits and payments, licences, travel and mobile top ups.
Any residents who have comments or thoughts about the access into the premises, and also access inside the premises, can submit their view to a consultation which closes on 02 September 2022, which will be taken into consideration as the Post office and Spar finalise the plans.
For more information, and to submit views, people should visit the Consultation Hub via postofficeviews.co.uk and use the search function with the unique branch code 459511.
